FanDuel MLB Picks: 9/29
September 29, 2017 | Justin Klein
Good morning and or afternoon my fellow fake-baseballers. It’s Friday I’m in love. We have a mostly full slate of baseball on tap as 13 of the 15 games scheduled are connected to the guaranteed prize pool contests that begin at 7:05 EST. Every game besides the TOR @ NYY and CIN @ CHC tilts. Be sure to note that FanDuel has added the Late Swap feature for 2017; meaning your players aren’t necessarily locked into their respective slots until their game begins. That’s important to know for a number of reasons, but a big added bonus of this feature is having to worry less about guys being scratched late and the dreaded rain-out. Another thing to keep in mind about this feature is that it will certainly impact ownership percentages. Having West coast players in your lineup at the time the Main contests begin will give players the flexibility to change their mind and swap players once play has already begun on the East coast. Good luck!
Before we get into the player selections and analysis, let’s take a quick look at Vegas lines that could be of interest to us – especially if you’re looking to stack a team or two. From a run total standpoint (alternatively, the over/under line) there’s one game that sticks out and it’s LAD at COL with an O/U of 11.5. After that there’s OAK at TEX with an O/U of 10.5 and HOU at BOS with an O/U of 10. As for money lines the biggest favorite is Trevor Bauer and the team with the racist mascot from Cleveland at -285. Then there’s a fairly large drop off to Stephen Strasburg and the Nationals at -185. In this article I will be providing you with my daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for FanDuel on 9/29/17. The DFS lineup picks will range from some of the elite players to mid-priced options and value plays on FanDuel. If you have any questions feel free to ping me on twitter. I’ll be around until mid afternoon when I head to Biloba Brewing Company to slang some suds. If you’re in the Brookfield area come have a brat and a beer or three.
Fanduel Stack Of The Day
My favorite team to stack is the Philadelphia Phillies at home against RHP Matt Harvey and the Mets. First and foremost I love the venue as Citizen’s Bank Park is the best ballpark in the league for HR this season. Then of course the Phillies get to face Matt Harvey in at least a few at bats and that’s a stupendous matchup this season. Harvey has been awful against everyone, but especially bad against LHH as he’s allowed them a triple slash of .319/.419/.604 with a wOBA of .425. My how the mighty have fallen. There’s a chance that Harvey puts it together for his last start of the season, but I’m not here for that narrative. I’m waiting for my man and that man is Matt Harvey. If you follow the numbers they will tell you that you want to get every left handed bat that’s in Philadelphia’s lineup into your own.
FanDuel DFS Starting Pitchers
Stephen Strasburg – P, vs PIT ($10,500)
Strasburg is the best option on the entire slate tonight as he has the highest floor and the highest upside of any hurler on the board tonight. His Nationals are -185 favorites and I expect Strasburg to go fairly deep into the game and rack up the K’s and elite ratios in a likely Nationals win. Stephen is putting a cap on a great season as he’s posted the most innings pitched since his 2014 season while also posting a 2.63 ERA, 10.52 K/9 and a 14-4 record. I expect that 15th win on Friday night in a strong performance that helps Strasburg climb over 175 innings pitched this season.
Kyle Gibson – P, at PIT ($8,100)
In his last six starts Gibson has notched 33 or more points five times and 40 or more points four times. His last time out Kyle faced these very same Tigers and managed to post 40 fantasy points. I’d be happy with a similar total tonight and I expect something along those lines. Gibson and the Twins are solid -175 favorites at home against Detroit. This leads me to beleive that Kyle will go at least 5+ innings and notch solid ratios with a good amount of K’s in a likely Minnesota win.
FanDuel DFS Infielders
Jonathan Lucroy – C, vs LAD ($3,900)
Lucroy has handled LHP in his career to the tune of a .182 ISO, .349 wOBA and a 116 wRC+. Tonight he’ll face LHP Hyun-Jin RYu and the Dodgers at home at the hitter’s paradise of Coors Field. Seeing as how Jonathan has triple slashed a healthy .314/.417/.414 in September I like his chances on Friday night. He’s expensive, but worth paying up for a night when he faces a southpaw at Coors Field.
Joey Gallo – 1B, vs OAK ($2,800)
Gallo has been amazing against RHP this season as he’s clocked 32 of his 39 HR and stolen all of his 7 SB against RHP. It bodes well that he faces a northpaw at home in the hitter friendly confines of Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas on Friday night. Priced at just $2,800 Gallo is both a strong matchup play and a great value play so join me and get him into all of your lineups on Friday night.
Cesar Hernandez – 2B, vs NYM ($3,300)
As I noted above I love the Phillies in their home park against Matt Harvey. Digging deeper I see that Cesar has notched a solid .301/.394/.442 triple slash with a .363 wOBA and a 123 wRC+ at home against RHP. In his career against Harvey he’s managed four hits and a walk across 10 at bats. I believe he adds to that total today. The fact that he’s swiped 11 of his 15 SB against RHP only makes me like him even more.
Matt Chapman – 3B, at TEX ($2,500)
Chapman has quietly had a solid second half as he’s managed a .271 ISO, .355 wOBA and a 124 wRC+. On Friday night he’ll face LHP Martin Perez in Texas at Globe Life Park and that is a boon to his value. Not only is Globe Life Park a good place for hitters to hit, but Chapman has rocked LHP to the tune of a .265 ISO, .366 wOBA and a 131 wRC+ on the road this season. For just $2,500 he’s a great value and a solid matchup play.
Freddy Galvis – SS, vs NYM ($2,600)
I can’t help but stack up the Phillies when they’re playing against Matt Harvey at home at Citizen’s Bank Park. As I noted in my stack section Citizen’s Bank Park is a great park for dongs and Galvis is a nice cheap punt play at SS with a great matchp against Matt Harvey. It’s worth noting that two-thirds of Freddy’s HR and half of his SB have come at home against right handed pitchers.
FanDuel DFS Outfielders
Giancarlo Stanton – OF, vs ATL ($4,200)
Stanton is the National League MVP this season as he’s destroyed everyone and is now approaching 60 HR. It’s that huge monster of a season that we’ve all been waiting for. Finally it’s here at last. On Friday night I expect Giancarlo to add to his redonkulous totals as he faces a young LHP at home at Marlins Park in Miami. This season against LHP at home Stanton has posted a silly good .506 OBP, .845 SLG, .517 ISO, .523 wOBA and a 231 wRC+. Those numbers are off the charts. At $4,200 Stanton is actually a strong value as well as a tremendous matchup play, so join me and get Stanton into all of your lineups.
Carlos Gonzalez – OF, vs LAD ($4,400)
Cargo has come on of late as he’s cranked out 26 hits in September with 11 doubles, 5 HR and a .371 batting average. While I don’t usually use him against LHP at home he has managed a solid .33 AVG, .379 OBP and a wOBA of .357 at home against southpaws this season. In his career against Ryu Cargo has smacked five hits in 12 at bats including a double and a HR. It also helps that he’s red hot. In his past two games he’s notched six hits including three doubles.
Nick Williams – OF, vs NYM ($3,100)
Williams is another Philadelphia southpaw that I love at Citizen’s Bank Park against Matt Harvey. Against RHP this (abbreviated) season Williams has logged an impressive .202 ISO, .345 wOBA and a 111 wRC+. It also helps that Nick has hit .300 thus far in September. For $3,100 he’s a strong value and matchup play.
