Lets kick off the weekend with just a 4 game slate here early. Kluber and Scherzer going take out 2 offenses in my opinion, and Stroman has been pitching well too. McCarthy has been pitching well in pinstripes, but he gave up 9 hits to the Indians in Cleveland last time out. Edwin Jackson has struggled for most of the season, and I like the Rays bats here early, even in Wrigley. In the late slate, with Clay Buchholz on the hill, the Angels are my favorite play of the night. I am also not sure what year I am in anymore, because Brad Penny is taking the hill against the Reds. Both teams should do well tonight.
Garrett Richards $8,700 – Boston has just a .304 wOBA and a 21% strikeout rate against RHP, and Richards should build on his CGSO that he had in his last start. He has a 25% K and 51% GB to go with that this season, allowing just a .243 this season he has been one of the best pitchers in baseball. Cole Hamels also gets a mention going up against the Mets, but you can save some salary here.
Francisco Liriano $7,400 – The Pirates are going to need Liriano to deliver if they want to get to the postseason, and so far he has been since the All Star Break. He has a 1.44 ERA since the break, and he has not given up more than 3 runs since May. The Padres have a .279 wOBA and a 21% strikeout rate against LHP this season. Liriano should be safe for both cash games and definitely a GPP play.
Todd Frazier $3,100 – Brad Penny, yes Brad Penny is pitching tonight against the Reds. Even this offense, as poor as it has been recently, should score against him tonight. If they don’t go off throughout the lineup, I am tagging Frazier as my must play. He has a shot to really produce tonight, and at that price he could be a real steal.
Jordy Mercer $3,100 – Mercer is hitting .375 with 4 doubles in the last 10 days. He has been a popular play against LHP, with a .380 wOBA and a 147 wRC+ you can see why. Eric Stults has allowed a .359 wOBA to RHB, and has a .378 wOBA on the road.
Mike Trout $4,600 – I know Trout has not been his usual self has of late, and even his usual self is better than people’s best. Both Trout and Pujols have homered off Buchholz, and I have them doing big things tonight. Only $4,600 for arguably the best player in baseball, find a way to get him in your outfield.
Albert Pujols $3,400 – I mentioned Buchholz on the hill, and he has allowed a .342 wOBA to RHB. I am all in on the Angels bats tonight. Clay has not been missing many bats this season, and with a lack of top price first baseman, Pujols should be one of the higher scoring ones of the night.
