* – “Top 5 Hitters” highlights exceptional matchups that may include both stars, lesser-known players, and those on your waiver wires.
When putting together the top 5 hitters, we factor in a few things; prior matchup history, whether the hitter is hot, and the pitchers history against that certain type of hitter. These matchups are released in the morning so ensure to research the weather leading up to the games in case they were postponed, and if the player is in the starting lineup.
Top 5 Hitters for 06/27/14
Ben Zobrist vs. Kevin Gausman – hitting .571 (4/7) with 2 2Bs & 2 RBIs. Zobrist is finally starting to hit with more consistency. Gausman brings a 2.74 ERA, but doesn’t have much major league experience yet and could be due for a blow up.
Evan Longoria vs. Chris Tillman- hitting .407 (11/27) with 2 2Bs, 5 HRs, 3 BBs, a SB, & 7 RBIs. Both of these guys have been a bit of a let down this year, but Longoria has hit in 8 of his last 10 games. I think the history and 4.45 ERA of Tillman suggest Longoria will be able to get a hit or two in this one too.
Chris Johnson vs. Kyle Kendrick- hitting .375 (6/16) with 3 2Bs & 3 RBIs. Kendrick is the type of pitcher that DFS players like to pick on. Johnson provides a low salary/ high upside bat with a great BvP history.
Dioner Navarro vs. John Danks- hitting .412 (7/17) with 2 2Bs, 2 HRs, a BB, a SB, & 3 RBIs. See Johnson, Chris. I was close to putting Navarro as the matchup of the day, but he’s too streaky and Danks has thrown a little better as of late.
MATCHUP OF THE DAY
Albert Pujols vs. Jason Vargas- hitting .316 (6/19) with 2 2Bs, a 3B, a HR, a SB, & 4 RBIs. Pujols and the Halos are on a 6 game winning streak and are putting up runs! Pujols and his .333 average over the past week are a big part of that. Plug in the fact that Vargas is a southpaw (L/R matchup) and that Vargas was a teammate last you and I think you have a winning combo. Pujols positively took live batting practice off of Vargas and likely knows his strengths and weaknesses. I’m looking for him to continue the multihit streak he’s on.
