All games, other than the Wrigley matinee, are in play Friday for daily games. As of now, all weather looks good.
Tyson Ross (RHP), SD $7,800 vs SF
Ross’ pitches missed a lot of bats in his last outing, where 14% of his pitches were swinging strikes in 7 innings of work against Detroit at home. I’m going to look past his road start against Cleveland where he didn’t look great, and ride him at home against the Giants, who in the early season are striking out the 11th most in the majors against RHP.
Sonny Gray (RHP), OAK $10,200 vs HOU
Houston’s hitting so far this season is another ugly beast to most, but for us daily players is again a regular source to slot starting pitchers against in daily lineups. Gray’s early season opponents include two games against light-hitting Seattle, but who cares when the results are three-for-three in the quality start department. He’s been outstanding, and is the biggest favorite of the day on the betting card.
Congratulations to the DK salary-makers for pumping up the Rockies’ regulars’ salaries. However, I’m still targeting any lefty bats in the Colorado batting order Friday, and most notably…
Carlos Gonzalez, COL $5,700 (OF) vs PHI (Pettibone)
Pettibone is an easy fade in Denver, as he gave up a .363 wOBA to LHB in 2013. CarGo’s price tag is steep, but he’ll likely be on base early and often. Pay attention to the lineup and get any hitters in who are cheaper (Dickerson/Stubbs).
David Ortiz, BOS $4,200 (1B) vs BAL (Tillman)
Papi’s surface stats elicit yawns (2 HR in 59 AB), but he’s hitting fly balls at a sharp rate (46%) and is making the best contact rate of his career (86%). This price tag is too low to pass up for a guy capable of a multi-homer game.
Shin-soo Choo, TEX $4,800 (OF) vs CHW (Paulino)
I will be using Choo anytime he’s facing weak right-handed pitching and as long as his salary is under $5,000. Too much value to be had here. Get him in your lineup.
Dayan Viciedo, CHW $3,400 (OF) at TEX (Perez)
If you’re playing along at home and filling in your DK lineup with my plays so far, you’re asking me when do the cheaper hitters start coming. Well, here we go. Viciedo should only be rostered when he’s facing lefties, and we have a great matchup in Texas against Martin Perez.
John Jaso, OAK $2,700 (C) vs HOU (Cosart)
When in the lineup, Jaso has been spotted towards the top of the batting order. At home against Cosart, at this price, makes for an automatic roster spot for me.
Garrett Jones, MIA $3,600 (1B/OF) vs SEA (Young)
There isn’t a lot to like about Jones’ early season numbers: only a couple of homers and not much else. But against the flyball-prone Chris Young, Jones presents a fine matchup to exploit.
Yasiel Puig, LAD $4,200 (OF) vs ARI (Miley)
Puig isn’t a guarantee to be in the Dodgers’ lineup card, but if he is, he should be in yours. His .427 wOBA versus lefties last year is really all there is to it.
