MLB DFS Value Plays: April 25
April 25, 2016 | Matt Terelle
Here are some of my favorite value plays for today across DraftKings and FanDuel. On most days I will try to outline one pitcher and four hitters who should be excellent values for the upcoming slate. Please note there isn’t a specific price cut off, instead, I will try to highlight players who should outperform their prices on a given day.
Rick Porcello (P) – Boston Red Sox
@ Atlanta Braves
$8,100 DraftKings, $7,400 FanDuel
Porcello hasn’t quite been what the Red Sox were hoping for when they signed him to a huge contract extension. That being said, he has one of the top matchups on the slate against a Braves lineup that could be one of the worst in the league. Against right-handed pitching, Atlanta has a .283 wOBA and a punchless .063 ISO. Porcello has been logging strikeouts at a high rate in the early going, averaging over 11 per nine innings. He is a nice SP2 to pair with Madison Bumgarner or Noah Syndergaard tonight.
Francisco Lindor (SS) – Cleveland Indians
@ Minnesota Twins
$3,600 DK, $3,500 FD
It’s hard to believe that Lindor is so cheap across the industry. He’s been extremely productive in the early going this season and has a favorable matchup with Tommy Milone. Lindor has reached base in eight straight games and has only failed to reach base in one of his games all season. He’s doing this while batting third for an Indians offense that is starting to hit the ball pretty well. Minnesota starter Tommy Milone is struggling in the early stages of the 2016 season. He’s walking 2.35 batters per game and also allowing 2.35 home runs per game. Look for the Indians hitters to stay hot on Monday.
Rajai Davis (OF) – Cleveland Indians
@ Minnesota Twins
$3,300 DK, $3,800 FD
Terry Francona usually deploys Davis in the leadoff spot when there’s a lefty on the mound, but stay tuned because Carlos Santana has hit well in that spot the past three games. Either way, Davis has been his normal self this year. He provides speed and some occasional power. He has five stolen bases and two home runs on the year.
David Freese (3B) – Pittsburgh Pirates
@ Colorado Rockies
DK $4,200, FD $3,200
A right-handed leaning Pirates lineup is in a great spot tonight. They travel to Coors Field to take on Chad Bettis, a right-hander who has shown reverse splits over his career. Most of the big Pirates hitters will cost you to roster, but Freese is a good deal on FanDuel. His low price will allow daily players a cheaper way to get some exposure to this game. He is enjoying a bounceback season and while his BABIP suggests some regression is coming, he’s in a great spot tonight.
Mark Reynolds (1B) – Colorado Rockies
vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
DK $4,500, FD $3,300
Reynolds is in a similar spot as David Freese. The veteran first baseman is a way to get exposure to Coors Field without breaking the bank. Reynolds has an exploitable righty-lefty matchup with Jeff Locke. Reynolds still has some pop in that bat and could be an exceptional value this evening.
