MLB DFS Value Plays: August 30th
August 30, 2016 | Matt Terelle
Looking for some value plays to help fill out those lineups today? You came to the right place! These are some of my favorite values for today across DraftKings and FanDuel. On most days I will try to outline one pitcher and four hitters who are shaping up as excellent value plays for the upcoming slate. Please note there isn’t a specific price cut off, instead, I will try to highlight players who should outperform their prices on a given day. Let’s get to today’s values.
Adam Wainwright (P) – St. Louis Cardinals
@ Milwaukee Brewers
$6,900 DraftKings, $8,700 FanDuel
No team has been more favorable for right-handed pitchers to face than the Brewers over the past few weeks. Milwaukee is striking out at a league-leading 25.7% rate against righties, leading to Carlos Martinez picking up 13 strikeouts in just six innings of work last night. Wainwright has not pitched well over the past month, but the strikeout upside alone makes him a worthy value play. He’s better suited for tournament lineups.
Ian Kinsler (2B) – Detroit Tigers
vs. Chicago White Sox (SP-Anthony Ranaudo, RHP)
$3,900 DK, $4,100 FD
Kinsler’s production has really tailed off over the past month which has led to his price dipping into the $3,000’s now. Detroit’s second baseman has a chance to break out tonight when he will face off against White Sox pitcher Anthony Ranaudo. Ranaudo has struggled against right-handed batters in his career, allowing a .373 wOBA and 2.16 home runs per nine innings. Detroit’s offense is projected to score 5.8 runs tonight, edging out the Coors participants for highest on the slate.
Kole Calhoun (OF) – Los Angeles Angels
vs. Cincinnati Reds (SP-Timothy Adleman, RHP)
$3,200 DK, $3,000 FD
Calhoun gets a favorable matchup with Reds rookie starter Timothy Adleman this evening. Adleman only has 29.1 innings pitched in the majors, but he has yet to show the ability to contain opposing left-handed batters. On the year, Adleman is allowing lefties to rack up a .424 wOBA and five home runs in just 13.1 innings of work. At his prices, Calhoun is shaping up as an excellent value tonight.
Miguel Sano (3B/OF) – Minnesota Twins
@ Cleveland Indians (SP-Josh Tomlin, RHP)
$3,900 DK, $3,500 FD
Sano is in a great spot today as he will face off against a struggling Josh Tomlin in Cleveland. Tomlin has allowed right-handed hitters to post a .366 wOBA and is allowing 2.19 homers per nine innings to them in 2016. Sano, with a career .241 ISO against right-handed pitching, has as much power as anyone in baseball and is a good bet to leave the yard tonight.
Ryan Schimpf (2B) – San Diego Padres
@ Atlanta Braves (SP-Julio Teheran, RHP)
$3,800 DK, $3,000 FD
Schimpf continues to fare well against right-handed pitching, posting a .419 wOBA and .304 ISO in his first big league season. The splits are in his favor tonight as Atlanta starter Julio Teheran has struggled with lefties, allowing a .340 wOBA to them in his career. San Diego is shaping up as a sneaky stack option against right-handed pitching in the latter part of the season.
