MLB DFS Value Plays: October 1st
October 1, 2016 | Matt Terelle
Looking for some value plays to help fill out those lineups today? You came to the right place! These are some of my favorite values for today across DraftKings and FanDuel. On most days I will try to outline one pitcher and four hitters who are shaping up as excellent value plays for the upcoming slate. Please note there isn’t a specific price cut off, instead, I will try to highlight players who should outperform their prices on a given day. Let’s get to today’s values.
Trevor Bauer (P) – Cleveland Indians
@ Kansas City Royals
$7,000 DraftKings, $7,800 FanDuel
Bauer will make his final start of the season as he gets ready for the postseason to begin. The young right-hander draws a favorable matchup against a Royals offense which has been a disappointment this season. Kansas City has especially struggled against right-handed pitching in 2016 as they rank just 28th in wOBA and 30th in ISO. Normally considered one of the harder teams in the league to strike out, the Royals also have a strikeout rate of 20.2%. Bauer can be inconsistent, but he has some strikeout upside and can be hard to hit when he’s on his game.
Manny Machado (3B/SS) – Baltimore Orioles
@ New York Yankees (SP-Luis Severino, RHP)
$3,700 DK, $3,300 FD
Machado has been struggling a bit at the plate over the past two weeks, which has caused his price to dip into the $3K range. Normally a hitter who can cost close to $5,000 on DraftKings, it’s worth taking note when he comes in this cheap. Machado, recent struggles aside, is one of the most talented hitters in the game and his matchup with Luis Severino is not one to be overly concerned about. Severino is allowing right-handed batters to put up a .367 wOBA against him this season. It’s not often you can get a hitter of Manny’s quality in a plus matchup at this much of a discount.
Alex Dickerson (OF)- San Diego Padres
@ Arizona Diamondbacks (SP-Archie Bradley, RHP)
$3,700 DK, $2,900 FD
Dickerson has put together a productive season for the Padres and he gets a huge park boost playing at Chase Field instead of his offense-suppressing home park. The young lefty has been swinging a hot bat over the past two weeks, posting a .360 batting average with a home run and four RBI. He gets a great matchup against Archie Bradley tonight as Bradley has struggled against lefties in his young career, allowing them to rack up a .371 wOBA.
Miguel Sano (3B/OF) – Minnesota Twins
@ Chicago White Sox (SP-James Shields, RHP)
$4,000 DK, $3,000 FD
At $4K on DraftKings, Sano isn’t a bad play, but he’s extremely interesting at just $3K on FanDuel. The young slugger has a lot of factors working in his favor today. He is playing at U.S. Cellular Field, one of the most homer-friendly venues for right-handed hitters, and takes on a very homer-prone pitcher in James Shields. Shields is allowing 2.26 HR/9 to right-handed batters this season.
Andrew McCutchen (OF) – Pittsburgh Pirates
@ St. Louis Cardinals (SP-Michael Wacha, RHP)
$4,200 DK, $2,800 FD
McCutchen remains way underpriced on FanDuel, where he checks in at just $2,800. The veteran outfielder has a matchup that he should be able to take advantage of today. Cardinals pitcher Michael Wacha is getting a spot start after working out of the bullpen recently. That hasn’t gone all that well for the young righty as he’s allowed 10 runs to score in 5.2 relief innings in September. McCutchen also has excellent career numbers against Wacha, slashing .480/.519/.760 with one homer in 25 at-bats.
