September 23, 2016 | Justin Bales
Danny Duffy (at DET) – Duffy has looked outstanding for the Royals this season, especially over his last 10 games. Over that span, he has a 6-1 record with a 3.13 ERA and a 9.3 K/9. He gets a decent matchup against the Tigers, who he has had some success against this season. He has only really struggled in one start recently, but he has also dominated in a few games. He has elite strikeout upside, and Duffy is a small underdog in a game set at 8 runs. He’s available in 12% of leagues on Yahoo, and he’s a great option tonight.
Cole Hamels (at OAK) – Hamels has looked good this season, but he has been struggling a bit over his last 10 games. He has thrown well on the road, though, as he has a 9-3 record with a 2.57 ERA and an 8.8 K/9 through 16 road starts. He gets a great matchup tonight against the A’s, and Hamels will be throwing in a pitcher friendly stadium. He’s a -145 favorite in a game set at 8 runs, and Hamels is a high upside option tonight.
Drew Pomeranz (at TB) – Pomeranz has really been struggling since joining the Red Sox, as he has a 2-4 record with a 4.56 ERA and a 9.1 K/9 over his last 10 games. With that being said, he gets a great matchup against the Rays, and Pomeranz will be throwing in an extremely pitcher friendly stadium tonight. He has dominated the Rays in two starts, and he’s a -120 favorite in a game set at 7.5 runs. He’s available in 20% of leagues on Yahoo, and he’s a high upside pitching option tonight.
Steven Matz (vs PHI) – Matz has thrown well this season, and he’s set to return tonight. He has also been a better pitcher at home this season. Through 12 home starts, he has a 4-4 record with a 2.97 ERA and an 8.7 K/9. He gets a great matchup against the Phillies, who have struggled offensively this season. Matz does come with some risk because of his injury concerns, but he’s a -175 favorite in a game set at 7.5 runs. He’s available in 16% of leagues on Yahoo, and he’s a great option tonight.
Note: Matz was scratched from his start. Michael Fulmer is a good replacement option.
Scott Kazmir (vs COL) – Kazmir is another pitcher set to return from injury tonight, but he has been struggling quite a bit this season. He has been a better pitcher at home, though, as he has a 4-6 record with a 4.11 ERA and a 10.1 K/9 through 13 starts. He gets a good matchup against the Rockies, who have struggled quite a bit outside of Coors this season. The Dodgers tend to limit their pitchers pitch counts, which means Kazmir will be extremely risky tonight. He’s a -150 favorite in a game set at only 7.5 runs, though, and he’s available in 51% of leagues on Yahoo. He’s a high risk, high reward streaming option.
