Pitching Streamers & DFS Plays for Monday, August 29th
August 29, 2016 | Justin Bales
Jose Fernandez (at NYM) – Fernandez has been enjoying a great season. He has a 13-7 record with a 2.91 ERA and a 12.9 K/9 through his first 24 starts. He has been a better pitcher at home, but he gets a great matchup against the Mets, who he has dominated in their three matchups this year. Fernandez is a -178 favorite in a game set at only 7 runs, and he’s always a great pitching option because of his strikeout rate. While he does come with a bit of risk because he is pitching on the road, Fernandez can be used in all leagues tonight.
Jake Arrieta (vs PIT) – Arrieta has struggled a bit recently, but he has been an elite pitcher in Chicago this season. Through his first 12 home starts, Arrieta has a 6-3 record with a 2.18 ERA and a 10.9 K/9. He gets a good matchup against the Pirates, who he has thrown well against in three of their four matchups this year. Arrieta will carry great upside because of his home strikeout rate. Arrieta is a -255 favorite in this game, and he can be used in all leagues.
Rick Porcello (vs TB) – Porcello has been throwing unbelievably well this season, including over his last 10 games. Over that span, he has an 8-1 record with a 2.48 ERA and a 6.9 K/9. His strikeout rate is a big worrisome, but Porcello pitches deep into games, which is where he gets his upside from. He gets an elite matchup against the Rays, who have looked awful since the trade deadline. Porcello is a -210 favorite in a game set at 9 runs, and he’s available in 9% of leagues on Yahoo. He’s a safe option in all leagues tonight.
Joe Musgrove (vs OAK) – Musgrove has been a boom or bust option this season. He has looked elite in three of his five starts, but he has looked awful in each of his last two. Each of those five starts have been against good offenses, and he gets a significantly better matchup against the A’s tonight. Musgrove has flashed more than enough upside to be considered, and he’s a -173 favorite in a game set at 8.5 runs. He’s still available in 68% of leagues on Yahoo, and he’s a high risk, high reward option tonight.
Matt Shoemaker (vs CIN) – Shoemaker has been a bit up and down recently, but he has been an elite pitcher at home. On the season, he has a 4-4 record with a 3.10 ERA and a 10.0 K/9 in 11 games. He gets a great matchup against the Reds, who have struggled outside of Cincinnati this season, and they will be playing in a pitcher friendly stadium tonight. Shoemaker is a -148 favorite in a game set at 8 runs, and he’s available in 54% of leagues on Yahoo. Generally, he comes with too much risk for cash games, but he has thrown so well at home recently that he can be used in all leagues tonight.
