Pitching Streamers & DFS Plays for Wednesday, June 1st
June 1, 2016 | Justin Bales
Max Scherzer (at PHI) – Scherzer has struggled quite a bit this season, as he only has a 5-4 record with a 4.05 ERA, but he does have an elite 11.1 K/9 through his first 11 starts. He threw well against the Phillies in his first start this season, but then struggled in his second start against them. He’s a -199 favorite in a game set at 7.5 runs, though. He has elite upside, but he also isn’t going to come cheap. He’s best suited for tournaments in DFS.
Felix Hernandez (at SD) – Felix has looked good this season, as he has a 4-4 record with a 2.86 ERA and a 7.6 K/9, but those numbers haven’t translated to much success in terms of fantasy. He gets an elite matchup against the Padres, who have one of the worst offenses in the MLB and should help King Felix’s strikeout rate. He’ll also be throwing in one of the most pitcher friendly stadiums in the MLB, and he’s a -164 favorite in a game set at 7 runs. He’s an elite option in all DFS leagues tonight.
Robbie Ray (at HOU) – Ray has had an up and down seasons thus far, but he has looked outstanding away from home. In five road starts, he has a cool 2.63 ERA and a 10.9 K/9. He gets a great matchup against the Astros, who have a bit of power, but also strikeout at an elite rate. Surprisingly, Ray is a sizeable underdog in a game set at 8.5 runs, which is certainly a bit worrisome. He’s a player that comes with a ton of risk, but he has a tremendous amount of upside, as well. He’s available in 92% of leagues on Yahoo, and he’s a high risk, high reward option tonight.
Christian Friedrich (vs SEA) – Friedrich has looked surprisingly good this season, as he has a 1.65 ERA through his first three starts. He only has a 6.1 K/9, which is a bit of a concern, though. He is a fairly large underdog tonight, but the game is set at only 7 runs and he’ll be throwing in one of the most pitcher friendly stadiums in the MLB. He has the ability to throw deep into games and he has improved his walks in each of his first three starts. He certainly comes with a bit of risk, but he’s a cheap option in DFS and he’s available in 99% of leagues on Yahoo. He’s a good streaming option tonight.
Albert Suarez (at ATL) – Suarez is set to make a spot start for the Giants tonight. He has thrown well in relief appearances this season, but he has a lot strikeout rate and he likely won’t be able to pitch all that deep into the game. Still, he gets a good matchup against the Braves, who have struggled offensively this season and Suarez is a -135 favorite. He hasn’t allowed a run outside of Coors Field this season, and he’s available in 99% of leagues on Yahoo. There are a few great streaming options tonight, and Suarez adds to the list.
