Pitching Streamers & DFS Plays for Wednesday, September 28th
September 28, 2016 | Justin Bales
Jake Arrieta (at PIT) – Arrieta hasn’t been playing all that well recently, but he has been enjoying an elite season. Through 30 starts, he has an 18-7 record with a 2.85 ERA and an 8.7 K/9. Tonight, he gets a good matchup against the Pirates, who he has thrown well against in five matchups this season. He’s a -171 favorite in a game set at only 7.5 runs, and he’s one of the best options on a slate without many elite arms. Even with his recent struggles, Arrieta can be used in all leagues.
Jeff Samardzija (vs COL) – Samardzija has certainly had his ups and downs this season, but he has been playing well over his last 10 games. Over that span, he has a 3-3 record with a 2.84 ERA and an 8.1 K/9. He gets a good matchup against Colorado, who have struggled to score runs outsides of Coors this season. Samardzija has also been a better pitcher at home. He’s a -192 favorite in a game set at 7.5 runs, and he’s available in 14% of leagues on Yahoo. Samardzija can be used in all leagues because of the lack of consistent pitchers on this slate.
Jose De Leon (at SD) – De Leon has flashed upside in his limited starts, but he has also struggled quite a bit early in his career. He has displayed elite strikeout potential, but he has also give up at least two earned runs in each of his first three starts. He gets a great matchup against the Padres in one of the most pitcher friendly stadiums in the MLB this season. De Leon is a -155 favorite in a game set at 8 runs, and he’s available in 72% of leagues on Yahoo. He’s a high risk, high reward streaming option tonight.
Miguel Gonzalez (vs TB) – Gonzalez has really been finding his groove recently. Over his last 10 games, he has a 2-4 record with a 3.47 ERA and a 6.2 K/9. His strikeout rate leaves much to be desired, but he has the ability to pitch deep into games, which is where he gets his upside. He gets a great matchup against the Rays, who have struggled to score runs since the trade deadline. Gonzalez is a -117 favorite in a game set at 8.5 runs, and he’s available in 94% of leagues on Yahoo. He does come with a bit of risk, but he’s a great streaming option tonight.
Seth Lugo (at MIA) – Lugo has struggled a bit over his last two games, but he still has a 4-2 record with a 2.61 ERA and a 6.6 K/9 through 16 games (seven starts). He gets a good matchup against the Marlins, who he threw well against in his only start against them this season. Lugo is a -129 favorite in a game set at 8.5 runs, and he’s extremely cheap on DFS sites tonight. He’s also available in 52% of leagues on Yahoo, and he’s a solid streaming option on this slate.
