Unless you’re in one of the magical 6% of Yahoo leagues where Andrew Cashner is available there is no dream stream for Monday. Not sure how those are even a thing.
Wily Peralta – Wily has been great thus far in 2014 and as mentioned last Tuesday (in Wednesday’s article) he was solid for the second half of 2013. With the Padres coming to Milwaukee on Monday he’ll look to keep it going, even though he’ll be facing one of the best SP of ’14 thus far in Andrew Cashner. This should be a low scoring pitcher’s duel where Wily will have a good shot at a QS, good ratios and a decent amount of K’s. It might be tough to get a win against AC, but the Padres offense isn’t scary and the Brewers are on fire, so a win is possible. I’m really excited for this one, as I’ll be watching from the field bleachers. If you would like to Free Wily on Monday you can add him in 70% of Yahoo leagues.
Garrett Richards – Richards is similar to Wily in that they are 2 of the hardest throwing starting pitchers in the show. They both sit at 95+ MPH, which obviously helps when they make a mistake in locating a pitch. Garrett has been on a roll this year, but is prone to walk too many batters and that will catch up to him if it continues (18/10 K/BB ratio in 19 innings pitched). He’ll be facing a scuffling offense in Washington so he will have a solid shot at a QS and a decent amount of K’s. He’s available in 58% of Yahoo leagues if you need him.
Mike Leake – Leake has quietly been the best SP for the Reds thus far in 2014, as he has shoved to a 2.95 ERA and .89 WHIP to go along with his 2 QS. He faces Liriano and the Buccos on Monday in Pittsburgh in spacious PNC Park as he looks to keep it going. Leake should give his fake team owners a solid shot at a QS and decent ratios along with a handful of K’s. He’s un-owned in 63% of Yahoo leagues if you’d like to be his fake team owner, even just for one day.
Zach (House Lannister) McAllister – While I don’t exactly trust McAllister as a SP I’d stream him on Monday at home against the light hitting Royals. Zach has been solid thus far and has even managed a 15/6 K/BB ratio. Both a QS and a win are possible and good ratios and a handful of K’s are probable. If you’d like to plug and play Zach he’s available in 86% of Yahoo leagues.
Stream at Your Own Risk
Tanner Roark – Tanner will be facing Garrett Richards and the Angels at home in Washington on Monday as he looks to improve on his 5.29 ERA & 1.41 WHIP. While he’s also posted 2 QS already, I’m going to pass on the possible ratio wrecker this week. Especially with Pujols and Kendrick running hot and some guy named Mike Trout coming to town. If you’re desperate or in a 15 team league I’d risk it otherwise I’d pass. Available in 86% of leagues he’s probably out there if you want him.
Dan Straily – Captain Red Beard has been decent thus far in ’14, but he’ll be facing off against Yu Darvish and the Rangers on Monday in Oakland. While O.CO is a great park to pitch in the Ranger’s lineup in solid and Darvish is the best pitcher in the league. No thank you.
Jenrry Mejia & Tyler Lyons – I’ve grouped these two together because they’re so similar and they’re even pitching against each other on Monday at Citi Field. While I’m very interested in both of these young talents for future streaming purposes I’m passing in all except the deepest or SP starved leagues (like one of my dynasty leagues where I’m streaming Mejia over Lyons). Pass on Monday, but take notice and keep an eye out for these guys in a better matchup.
