In case you’re new around here, every week I break down all of the 2-start options into 4 simple categories. Those categories are plug and play, play, maybe so, maybe not (consider playing) and don’t play. If they aren’t self explanatory enough for you, then you’re going to need far more assistance than any fantasy baseball column can possibly provide. Hopefully this guide will help you figure out what pitchers to pick up in weekly leagues, with a rough idea of how much FAAB to spend on them, and also plan ahead in daily moves leagues. Be sure to follow me on Twitter or search the hash tag #SPStreamers if you’re looking for solid streaming options during the week as I try to tweet them as much as I can.

Plug and Play

  1. Clayton Kershaw MIA, SD
  2. Noah Syndergaard CIN, SF
  3. Madison Bumgarner SD, @NYM
  4. David Price @ATL, NYY
  5. Cole Hamels NYY, LAA
  6. Gerrit Cole @COL, CIN
  7. Zack Greinke STL, COL
  8. Chris Sale @TOR, @BAL

Kershaw with 2 home starts against fairly weak teams is about as juicy as a Pliny the Elder. Yum. Sale has a couple of tough starts but anyone who owns him is starting him anyway.

Play

  1. Danny Salazar @MIN, @PHI
  2. Jordan Zimmermann OAK, @MIN
  3. Raisel Iglesias @NYM, @PIT
  4. Taijuan Walker HOU, KC
  5. Garrett Richards KC, @TEX
  6. Carlos Martinez @ARI, WAS
  7. Vincent Velasquez @WAS, CLE
  8. Joe Ross PHI, @STL
  9. Kyle Hendricks MIL, ATL
  10. Ian Kennedy @LAA, @SEA
  11. Wei-Yin Chen @LAD, @MIL
  12. Jaime Garcia @ARI, WAS
  13. Ross Stripling MIA, SD
  14. Rick Porcello @ATL, NYY

Salazar is about as close to an auto start as it gets. He’s been a bit lucky thus far this season, but he’s also been very good. These matchups should help keep his luck going. Ian Kennedy has looked good with an elite defense behind him, and I expect good results as he visits two pitcher friendly parks next week. Garcia has a tougher slate, but as long as he’s healthy I’ll be trotting him out there. Stripling has two juicy matchups and is available in 73% of Yahoo leagues. Go pick him up before your opponents get to him first. I’m drinking the Porcello Kool-Aid this week as he faces the Braves in Atlanta and then the Yankees at home. That second game will be much tougher than the first, but I’ll risk it.

Maybe so, Maybe not

  1. Chris Archer BAL, TOR
  2. Rich Hill @DET, HOU
  3. Drew Pomeranz @SF @LAD
  4. Kevin Gausman @TB, CHW
  5. Jimmy Nelson @CHC, MIA
  6. Doug Fister @SEA, @OAK
  7. Kendall Graveman @DET, HOU
  8. RA Dickey CHW, @TB
  9. Nate Eovaldi @TEX, @BOS
  10. Tom Koehler @LAD, @MIL
  11. Ubaldo Jimenez @TB, CHW

Chris Archer has had a rough start to the season and these two matchups are about as tough as it gets. I only have one share of Archer this season (in dynasty no less), and I’m likely to bench him for a week. Hopefully I can return him to the Play column next Friday. Drew Pomeranz will be making two starts in rather pitcher-friendly parks and is available in 60% of Yahoo leagues. Go pick him up if you can. Graveman could turn back into a pumpkin this week, but at least he should get some K’s against the Astros. Dickey, Eovaldi, Koehler and Jimenez are all risky plays that I would lean towards benching unless you’re desperate.

Don’t Play

  1. Shelby Miller STL, COL
  2. Julio Teheran BOS, @CHC
  3. Matt Wisler BOS, @CHC
  4. Jeff Locke @COL, CIN
  5. Tom Milone CLE, DET
  6. Mike Pelfrey CLE, DET
  7. Chad Bettis PIT, @ARI
  8. Jorge De La Rosa PIT, @ARI
  9. John Danks @TOR, @BAL

Shelby is a hold in most leagues, but make sure he’s on your bench. I want to see him pitch well before I recommend playing him again. The same goes for Julio. The rest of these guys are good targets for hitters in DFS, especially Danks, so make sure you take advantage of them next week.
